Workshop on The Role of Energy Efficiency in Industrial Competitiveness

Context
Competitiveness and energy costs are at the heart of global discussions among policymakers and industry leaders. Public private collaboration is key to success. While energy prices are often difficult to control due to market fluctuations and external factors, firms have the ability to manage their energy consumption. By improving efficiency, businesses can better navigate price volatility, reduce operational risks, and enhance stability. Beyond lowering costs, energy efficiency unlocks multiple benefits, including improved productivity, and enhanced resilience. These advantages collectively strengthen firms’ market positions and long-term sustainability, making them more competitive in a rapidly evolving global economy.
Background of the workshop
This workshop is part of the International Energy Agency’s (IEA) preparation for the 10th Annual Global Conference on Energy Efficiency, which will be held in Brussels on 12–13 June 2025. A key output from this effort will be a report on the role of energy efficiency in enhancing industrial competitiveness.
This workshop will serve as a platform for dialogue and sharing experiences to inform the IEA’s forthcoming report, and to build momentum for the topic in general.
