CERN – Energy Efficiency Movement Day

CERN - Energy Efficiency Movement Day

When

14/04/2026
09:00 - 15:00

Where

CERN
Espl. des Particules 1, Geneva, 1217

CERN and ABB, a founder of the Energy Efficiency Movement, have been working together in a research and development collaboration that revealed something remarkable: a 17.4% energy-saving opportunity across 800 cooling and ventilation motors — enough to power more than 18,000 European homes.

This breakthrough goes far beyond a single CERN success story. It offers a replicable blueprint for energy-intensive facilities worldwide.

On 14 April 2026, CERN — in partnership with ABB and the Energy Efficiency Movement — will open its doors for a unique event exploring how these research insights can accelerate energy-efficiency strategies across sectors, with particular relevance for cooling-intensive infrastructures, including data centers. Participants will hear directly from the researchers and industry leaders who are translating advanced research into real-world impact.

Through keynotes and hands-on group work, participants will:

  • Learn how ABB supported CERN in identifying a 17.4% energy-saving potential across cooling and ventilation motors
  • Discover how large-scale facilities, including their data centers can be optimised to achieve significant, measurable energy savings, particularly in cooling systems
  • Exchange directly with experts and peers shaping the next wave of industrial and digital-infrastructure sustainability

The event will bring together experts from cooling and ventilation, energy, sustainability, operations, manufacturing, facilities management, engineering, environmental health and safety, R&D, and procurement/supply chain — creating a cross-disciplinary space. Data center ecosystems will be explored in terms of energy efficiency and through guided tours at CERN.

It is a unique opportunity to connect with companies actively driving energy-efficiency solutions, learn from one of the world’s most advanced research sites, and take home actionable insights to improve the performance and resilience of your own facilities.

The meeting is also available on zoom, please click on ‘Videoconference’ when registering.
